1. Advantages of waterproof fabric

Generally, the surface of waterproof and breathable fabrics is relatively smooth, and they are generally windproof, and they are less prone to wrinkles. They are generally all polyester, and the price will be cheaper.

2. The working principle of waterproof fabric

In the state of water vapor, the water particles are very small. According to the principle of capillary movement, they can smoothly penetrate the capillary to the other side, thus causing vapor transmission. When the water vapor condenses and turns into water droplets, the particles become larger. Due to the surface tension of the water droplets (the water molecules "pull against each other"), the water molecules cannot smoothly escape from the water droplets and penetrate to the other side, which is to prevent The permeation of water occurs, giving the vapor-permeable membrane a waterproof function.

Types of waterproof and breathable fabrics: There are mainly two types: water-resistant and waterproof. The former is divided into fiber/cloth type (not windproof but good air permeability) and membrane type (windproof but poor air permeability); the latter is generally permeable Membrane type, two-layer or three-layer, windproof, two-layer is softer than three-layer and has better air permeability, and three-layer is stronger. Water-resistant or highly water-repellent fabrics will seep when pressure is applied, such as when you are wearing pants of this material and sitting on a wet stool.

The development of completely waterproof and breathable fabrics (waterproof) began in the late 1970s. The current 2nd generation products are completely waterproof and windproof and maintain good breathability. However, garments made of this kind of fabric are not necessarily completely waterproof, mainly because of water seepage in the seams or zipper parts. To ensure that the garment is completely waterproof, you need to press glue at all seams (good garments use waterproof beading). This requires a lot of labor and cost, which is one of the reasons why such clothes are expensive.

3. Which are waterproof fabrics?

Waterproof and breathable fabric is a new type of textile fabric. Its composition is composed of polymer waterproof and breathable material (PTFE membrane) and cloth. According to the needs of different products, it is made of two-layer composite and three-layer composite. It is widely used in outdoor clothing, mountaineering clothing, windbreakers, raincoats, shoes, hats and gloves, cold jackets, sports goods, medical equipment, etc., and is gradually applied to fashion clothing.
